celebrations

03

Things are mostly uneventful here, but Dave got his PhD on Thursday. We went down to U of C for his defense (entitled New Light States in Meson Decays) which was great though we had no idea what he was talking about as usual. After the champagne and snacks (and cupcakes) we went out on the town. Too bad you weren't here to party!

Homesick

april clouds

Dear Jen,

I miss the midwest very much and all of you guys back home. This weekend had cold spring weather but the skies were lovely. The collective project is coming along really well but our deadline is fast approaching. The first weekend in May is when Fountain fair will be in full swing..I hope you can make it out on a weekend and sell some stuff. I also am listening to Basia Bulat...if you don't you should.

Miss you

Kaelyn

unbreak my eardrums

Kaelyn, let me tell you about my day at work today. I arrived about 5 minutes late to the sound of the Russian equivalent of Jock Jams playing on the stereo. I thought I was going to die. After I got totally pumped up for patternmaking to that cd 2 times, Svetlana went over to the stereo and started looking through the cd's which can only mean one thing. I break out into a cold sweat of panic...please...not...Unbreak My Heart...anything but that cd...even Russian Jock Jams. It is, of course, the Unbreak My Heart cd.

It is literally soul crushing to me when this cd comes on. I have the order of songs and the lyrics to every song memorized. The record number of plays in a row on this cd is 5 at which point Alice shut it down. So anyway, when I heard the first cords of Unbreak My Heart and was simultaneously experiencing the first symptoms of a panic attack, I went into the bathroom and wired my headphones from the ipod in my back pocket, up the back of my shirt, under my giant mop of hair, through a scarf and into my left ear (the ear that Svetlana can't see from her sewing machine). I felt crazy, but also crazy awesome smart. Hahahahahahaha.

In case you were wondering, my right ear took down the track listing for you.

Unbreak My Heart : Toni Braxton
Total Eclipse of the Heart : Bonnie Tyler
Yesterday : The Beatles
You Can Leave Your Hat On : Joe Cocker
Bryan Adams : Please Forgive Me
My Heart Will Go On : Céline Dion
Without You : Mariah Carey
Hold Me for a While : Rednex
From This Moment : Shania Twain
I Just Called to Say I Love You : Stevie Wonder
I Will Survive : Gloria Gayner
Angie : The Rolling Stones

There are more songs, some which are not in English, some which I don't know and some which I forgot because my left ear was cuttin cat faces in the pines.

Rainy Sunday

Dear Jen,
This weekend has been rain, rain, and more rain. I think it followed me here from Chicago? I'm drawing and working on my freelance job today in hopes that my presentation goes well and they go into production. Have you started putting any of our rainy chicago brain-storming ideas into action yet?

Miss you terribly...

Your friend,
Kaelyn

P.S.

Picture 3- is the view from my window...you can't see the rain but it's there

a short visit

jenkae

proof that we were in the same city!

We started off the day with sun and breakfast, then tea and brainstorming. We then gathered a serious crew and ate lunch with a surly bartender at the helm. After a trip to Penelope's the day ended back in the rain.

Yea we're back!! Looks like you had a super fun New Years Eve, mine wasn't quite so spectacular. This is what's been going on here in the evenings, while watching Mad Men. I can't decide if I like that show or not yet, even though I'm 10 episodes into the first season, do you watch it?

You have to refresh me on that polaroid setup you have going on. I seem to remember it was a polaroid camera with fugi film? Or am I totally wrong.
